Marriage Lessons Every Father Should Give His Daughter

For every daughter, her father is her real life hero, best friend and confidant. When it comes to any situation, a daughter looks up to her dad for advice, solace and motivation. He teaches her some of the most valuable lessons of life. For a daughter, her father will always be her first and last love.

Let’s look at a few things every father should tell his daughter before her wedding.

1. Learn to adapt and don’t hesitate to learn new things

Marriage means a storm of changes. Your surrounding changes, lifestyle changes and you have to slowly but gradually adjust to your husband and in-laws. Instead of hesitating and stressing out, get to know your family, adapt to the new changes and learn how things work. It will help you in the long run and make you adjust better.

2. Don’t try to change your husband and give him space

Now that he’s the one you’ve chosen to spend your life with, learn to accept him the same way he’s accepted you. Make sure you give your husband the space he needs because apart from the role of a husband, he also has other roles to play. Be appreciative of the efforts he puts in, no matter how small or big.

3. Follow your heart

Post marriage, there comes a point when people will look up to you for some crucial decisions. What you decide is your choice and may not necessarily be favoured by everyone. But don’t let that get to you and stick to it if you feel it’s the right decision. Things will not always go according to your plans but make sure you’ve learned something from it.

4. Always be independent

The most important thing is that you should be independent. Marriage shouldn’t be a reason for you to count on your husband or anyone else for the small things. Learn to respect yourself and only then will everyone around respect you. Be a person who takes initiatives and can single-handedly manage things.

5. Love and respect his family members

Now that you’re married, you need to think of your in-laws as your parents, and you have to love and respect them the same way you love us. You need to remember that just like you expect your husband to love and respect your parents, the same courtesy should be extended to his family too! Love and value your in-laws without having any expectations.

6. His world revolves around his mom and that’s fine

As someone rightly said, “The way a man treats his mother says a lot about how he would treat you in the future.” A lot of tiffs happen because there is a lack of understanding between a mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law. But understand that his mother has raised him, loved him unconditionally and seen him at his best and worst. If you understand this, accept this, it will give you a new perspective and strengthen your bond.

7. Your home is always ‘yours’

Even though ‘your husband’s home is your only home’, your dad’s house will always be yours. Whenever you feel you need your family and want to come home, you can always do that without any hesitation.

8. No matter what, we will always love you

It doesn’t matter where you go or what you do, you can always fall back on us. No matter how old you grow or how wise you become, you’re always going to remain the little angel to your parents.

A wedding day is filled with anxiety as there are a lot of things that can easily stress you out. A few words of wisdom coming from a father give you the much-needed strength and prepare you for the new life that lies ahead of you.
