URGENT: TEXAS FLOOD HORROR DEEPENS – DEATH TOLL HITS 80, FOCUS ON MISSING CAMP MYSTIC GIRLS 🚨
The heartbreak in Texas is unimaginable tonight. The death toll from the catastrophic floods has tragically soared to at least 80 lives lost, nearly doubling the casualties reported just last night. Among those confirmed deceased are a beloved teacher, a dedicated soccer coach, and his wife – pillars of their community, now tragically cut short.
But the most agonizing chapter of this disaster continues to unfold at Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County. Officials have confirmed that at least 27 campers remain tragically unaccounted for from this cherished institution. Imagine the unspeakable anguish of families from Dallas, Houston, and Austin, whose daughters were meant to be enjoying a carefree summer getaway in the serene Hill Country.
Governor Greg Abbott and local officials confirmed the escalating crisis Sunday, providing a grim update as the Lone Star State battles to sift through unimaginable wreckage. The hardest-hit area, Kerr County, now accounts for at least 68 fatalities, with a staggering 28 children among them. Twelve more lives were lost in surrounding counties, including two confirmed dead in Travis County from Saturday’s storms, where another 10 people remain missing. Thankfully, authorities have been able to confirm that no other youth camps in the region, like Camp Longhorn or Camp Waldemar, have missing children.
When the unexpected deluge hit Friday, approximately 750 children were at Camp Mystic, located about 85 miles northwest of San Antonio. The Guadalupe River, usually a source of summer joy, overflowed its banks with unprecedented fury, sweeping away everything in its path.
The sheer physical destruction is making recovery efforts excruciatingly difficult. Vast stretches of the countryside remain choked with tangled trees and heavy debris, remnants of the flood’s destructive power. This relentless landscape is severely hampering the search for the dozens more people still missing, a number that tragically continues to rise. Hope mingles with despair as families cling to every update.
Governor Abbott expressed profound gratitude to the first responders pouring into the area, emphasizing the urgency of their mission. “My instruction to every state agency involved in this is to assume everybody who is missing is alive, and there’s a need for speed,” Abbott told reporters Saturday. “Every minute counts.”
Our hearts are breaking for every family, every friend, and every community shattered by this nightmare, especially those agonizing over the fate of the Camp Mystic girls. The Hill Country, a sprawling region undergoing transformation from ranchland to bustling suburbia, now bears the scars of this immense tragedy.
The road to recovery will be long and arduous, but the spirit of Texas is strong. Let’s extend our deepest condolences, our unwavering support, and our prayers to those affected by this unprecedented disaster. 🙏
